Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Dip

Are you looking for an easy and delicious game-day (or holiday party) appetizer that you can easily throw into the slow cooker? This five-ingredient Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Dip recipe has got you covered! This is my go-to recipe for when friends and family come over to watch the game or when I need an easy and yummy potluck recipe. It is creamy with just the right amount of the classic buffalo flavor and it is truly a crowd-pleaser.

I use the Crockpot to make buffalo chicken dip, since the steady low temperature gets everything cooked just right with minimal effort. However, this dip can also be made in the oven or on the stove!

We usually use pulled chicken breast made in a dutch oven to prepare our chicken, but rotissere chicken, leftover chicken or even canned chicken also work great in this recipe!

And my BIGGEST SECRET is that I make the ranch dressing myself using cottage cheese – here’s the full Homemade Ranch Dressing recipe! That’s right – no need for store bought ranch in this creamy crockpot buffalo chicken dip. Ranch is unbelievably good when you make it yourself and totally worth the time. You can absolutely use regular ranch in this recipe, but I encourage you to give it a try! It’s easier than you think.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup cream cheese (12 oz), cubed
  • 3 cups shredded, cooked chicken
  • 3/4 cup buffalo sauce
  • 1 cup ranch dressing
  • 1 1/2 cup shredded colby jack cheese
  • 2 tbsp chopped green onions

How to Make Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Dip

Add the cream cheese to the bottom of the crockpot and top with the chicken, buffalo sauce, ranch and most of the shredded cheese (retain 2-3 tbsp to sprinkle on top when ready to serve). Cover.

Cook the mix on low for 1 hour. Stir.

Continue cooking on low for 2 more hours.

Sprinkle with the remaining shredded cheese and green onions. Serve warm!

Tips for the Best Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Dip!

  • Serve this Buffalo Chicken Dip with pita chips, tortilla chips, celery, and/or carrots!
  • You can add an extra cup of chicken for a chunkier dip.
  • Make sure the cream cheese is the bottom layer of the crockpot so it melts first.
  • If you’re in a rush, you can place all of the ingredients into the crockpot on high and stir at 30 minutes. The dip will be ready in 90 minutes-2 hours.
  • If you want to start with uncooked chicken, place 1 lb of chicken breasts/thighs into the crockpot with 1/2 cup of broth and 2 tbsp of butter and cook for 2 hours on high before adding the rest of the ingredients and cooking for an additional 2 hours.

Make It In The Oven Instead!

If you’d rather skip the slow cooker, you can prepare buffalo chicken dip on the stovetop or bake it in the oven. Either way, you’re simply melting the ingredients together.

For the oven method, mix all the ingredients, spread them into a baking dish, top with an extra layer of cheese, and bake at 350°F for about 20–30 minutes.
