Madeleine Muffin Ingredients & Substitutions

For the chocolate drizzle:
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips
How To Make Honey Madeleine Mini Muffins
Preheat oven 350 degrees.
Grease your muffin pans with butter and melt the remaining butter in the microwave.

Add the eggs and honey to a mixing bowl. Whisk them together with an electric whisk for 1 minute.

Mix the baking powder with the flour and add to the mixture. Also add melted butter to mixture. Whisk again for 1 minute.
Spoon the mixture into the muffin tins filling each tin about halfway to leave room for the muffins to rise.

Bake for 12 minutes or until the middle puffs up.
On the side, mix the half and half and chocolate chips in a melting pot. We used our Crockpot Little Dipper, but you can also use a double boiler.

Remove the madeleine muffins from the oven and drizzle the chocolate sauce over them.

Storing Madeleine Muffins
Madeleines do not need to be refrigerated immediately after baking, as they are best enjoyed fresh and at room temperature when they retain their soft, airy texture. However, if you plan to store them for more than a day or two, it’s a good idea to refrigerate them in an airtight container to prevent them from drying out. When refrigerated, they can last up to a week.
FAQS
How are you supposed to eat madeleines?
Madeleines can be eaten on their own as a simple snack or dessert. Ours have a decadent twist, drizzled with melted chocolate. Traditionally, they are best eaten freshly baked when they are soft, warm, and aromatic, offering a delightful and elegant treat. But eat them however makes you happy!
Should these madeleine muffins be reheated after storage?
Before serving, you can bring them back to room temperature or warm them slightly in the oven to restore their softness. For longer storage, madeleines can also be frozen and thawed as needed.
Do madeleines have to be made in a madeleine mold?
Madeleines are traditionally made in a distinctive shell-shaped mold, which gives them their classic appearance and slightly crisp edges. However, you don’t have to use a madeleine mold—if you don’t have one, you can still bake the batter in a muffin tin or another type of small baking mold.
In our recipe using a muffin tin, we adjusted the baking time slightly, since they might take a little longer to bake due to the deeper wells. So, while the mold adds to the classic presentation, it’s not strictly necessary for enjoying the flavor and texture of madeleines!
