The viral “Marry Me” Chicken catapulted the creamy sun-dried tomato dish into the spotlight and we, like the rest of the world, couldn’t get enough! This is a modification that allows you to throw all the ingredients into the crockpot in the morning and have a crowd pleaser ready for dinner.
Crockpot dishes work well for our family since we have two toddlers who nap in the middle of the day. This creates the perfect time to put together a crockpot meal that then requires minimal attention until dinner time! I hope this recipe fits perfectly into your life too!
Table of contents

Marry Me Chicken Ingredients
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp oil from sun-dried tomato jar
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1 cup low sodium chicken broth
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 tbsp dried minced onion
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp paprika
- 2 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1.5 lbs chicken breasts
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/2 cup parmesan cheese
- 1 cup mushrooms
- 1 cup drained sun-dried tomatoes
- 2-3 cups fresh spinach
How To Make Marry Me Chicken
Begin by heating the butter and oil in the crockpot on the high setting.

Whisk together the flour and chicken broth. Add this mixture to the heated crock pot.
Mix together garlic, onion, salt, pepper, paprika and Italian seasoning and coat your chicken breasts.

Place the seasoned chicken breasts into the crockpot.
Add the mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes and spinach. Cover.

Mix the parmesan cheese and heavy cream until uniform and pour into the crockpot, reduce the heat to low setting.

Cook on the low setting for 4-5 hours or until the chicken is cooked through. Stir periodically. At this point your house will start to smell amazing, and everyone will be ready for dinner!

Serve with your choice of pasta. We were in a rush, so we threw a bag of ready-made pasta into the microwave. Even with that pasta, this came out amazing!! The creaminess of the sauce and the sun dried tomatoes really make this a delicious dinner.
You can even serve with rice. When we reheated it the next day for lunch, we cooked a cup of rice. Honestly, I liked it with rice even better! It’s a very versatile dish. Our kids love it too!
Tips
- Avoid dry chicken and separated cream by remembering to cook on the low crockpot setting. If you need the dish to be ready sooner, you can cook on the high setting, but I recommend searing the chicken ahead of time and adding the cheese and cream mixture during the last 30 minutes of cooking. Reduce cook time to 3 hours if cooking on the high setting.
- The dried onions can be substituted with 1/2 cup of freshly chopped yellow onion.
- I usually serve this dish with pasta, but it also pairs perfectly with rice!
- I don’t recommend using frozen chicken; thaw it prior to seasoning to ensure it is cooked properly.
Storage & Reheating
This dish stores well in an airtight container in the fridge for 4 days. You can also freeze it for up to 6 months in a freezer safe container.
To reheat, simply pop it in the microwave for about a minute, and it should be ready to eat!
