Cookies and Cream Cookies Recipe

5.0 from 9 votes

Over the years, Cookies and Cream has evolved into a classic American flavor and it is one of my favorites. From ice cream to cheesecake, cookies and cream seems to work well in a variety of desserts, so why not as a cookie?! When dreaming up this recipe, I wanted to create something that was rich and creamy like cheesecake and had big chunks of Oreos. So I modified my go-to chocolate chip recipe and I couldn’t be more happy with the results!

These cookies are soft, surprisingly not too sweet, and very rich! The whole family loves them so much that I try to reserve them for special occasions to prevent a cookies and cream overload.

Cookies and Cream Cookies Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cup oreo chunks – simply toss 10-12 Oreos into a ziplock bag and smash a couple of times with a rolling pin (or other implement). I like the thicker chunks of Oreos, but you could also put them into a food processor to finely blend!
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips – my favorite chips are the Ghirardelli 60% dark chips, but you can also use normal semi sweet chips, white chocolate chips or an additional 1/2 cup of crushed oreos!
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar – for a paler (“creamier”) looking cookie you can substitute the brown sugar with another 1/2 cup of white sugar.
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

How to make Cookies and Cream Cookies:

Place 10-12 Oreo cookies into ziplock bag and mash with a rolling pin.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

In a medium bowl combine your dry ingredients (flour, salt, baking soda) and the Oreo chunks and chocolate chips.

In a larger bowl cream the butter, white and brown sugars and the cream cheese. Once combined add the eggs and vanilla extract and whisk until combined. I strongly recommend the butter and cream cheese be at least room temperature and soft so they mix well. I also recommend a stand mixer or an electric hand mixer to save your arm.

Gradually stir in the flour mixture until well combined. This dough is sticky and takes some effort to fully combine. It is ready once you no longer see dry flour in the bowl.

Scoop out the cookies onto a nonstick pan or a pan lined with parchment paper. Sometimes I will top with a couple of Oreo fragments (usually if I am bringing to an event because it makes them look really cool and lets everyone know they’re not your average chocolate chip cookie)!

Bake the cookies for 12-15 minutes or until the bottoms just begin to brown.

Allow to set and cool for about 5 minutes before enjoying!

Tips to Create the Perfect Cookies and Cream Cookies:

  • Make sure your butter and cream cheese are soft! This allows them to be creamed with the sugar easily.
  • However, do not use melted butter or cream cheese as they will affect the texture of the cookie and will cause the Oreos and chocolate chips to melt.
  • You can create a lighter color cookie by substituting the brown sugar with white sugar.
  • I prefer cookies that are less sweet, so if these aren’t to your liking, simply add an additional 1/2 cup of granulated white sugar and prepare as described!
  • You can substitute the cream cheese with an extra 1/2 cup of butter. While still delicious, I find this does reduce the “cream” flavor.
  • You can use a food processor to finely grind the Oreo cookies. This results in a fun light brown speckled cookie.
  • I like to top these cookies with Oreo chunks right before I bake them to make them look even more awesome!
  • I often bake on parchment paper to help with cleanup, but these cookies bake well right on an ungreased cookie sheet.
