They pair perfectly with meat, sandwiches or as an afternoon snack. Serve these to your family guilt-free, because they are also healthy and affordable!

Ingredients for Air Fryer Potato Wedges

  • 1 lb red potatoes
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • salt to taste

How to Make Potato Wedges in the Air Fryer

Peel the eyes or any defects off the potatoes. Cut the potatoes in half and then each half into wedges. You can completely peel the potato if you prefer!

Preheat the air-fryer to 400 degrees F (on the air-fry setting).

Toss the wedges with the oil, chili powder, onion powder and a dash of salt in a medium bowl.

Arrange the potato wedges on the air fryer basket so that there is a small amount of space between all the wedges. Depending on the size of your air-fryer, you may have to cook the wedges in two rounds to allow the potatoes enough space. If the wedges are touching, the skin will not crisp up.

Air-fry for 18-22 minutes or until the potatoes begin to crisp and appear dry on the outside.

FAQs

Why are my air fryer potato wedges not crispy?

If your air fryer potato wedges aren’t crispy, it could be due to moisture or insufficient cooking temperature. Ensure the wedges are patted dry after washing to remove excess water, as moisture prevents crisping.

Toss them in oil to promote even browning, but don’t use too much, as it can make them soggy. Overcrowding the basket can also trap steam, so cook in a single layer with space between wedges. Finally, make sure your air fryer is preheated for optimal crispiness.

Do you need to soak potatoes before putting them in the air fryer?

Soaking potatoes before putting them in the air fryer isn’t strictly necessary, but it can help achieve crispier results. Soaking sliced potatoes in cold water for 30 minutes removes excess starch, which can prevent them from becoming crispy.

After soaking, make sure to thoroughly dry the potatoes with a clean towel to remove moisture, as wet potatoes can steam instead of crisping. This step is especially useful for thick-cut wedges or fries.

Can you put a raw potato in the air fryer?

Yes, you can put raw potatoes in the air fryer. Simply cut them into your desired shape, such as wedges or fries, and prepare them by tossing with a bit of oil and seasoning. Set your air fryer to the appropriate temperature (usually 400°F) and cook until golden and crispy.
